For developers & AI clients

WordSearchClub MCP

Search our 24 reviewed word searches and retrieve the same fixed puzzles available on the website. An MCP client can return a playable source page, a letter grid and matching printable files without inventing a new puzzle.

Connect your client

The endpoint is https://wordsearchclub.com/mcp. Choose Streamable HTTP in a client that supports remote MCP servers. No account or API key is required.

    "wordsearchclub": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://wordsearchclub.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

This example uses the common mcpServers configuration format. Your client may use different field names or a connection form. Use the endpoint exactly as shown; /developers/mcp/ is this documentation page, not the protocol endpoint. Tool examples below show parameters for the MCP tools/call method; your client handles initialization and the protocol envelope.

Find actual published puzzles by query, category or editorial topic. All parameters are optional; a search with no filters returns the first page of the reviewed collection.

query
Search text, up to 80 characters. Matches public titles, themes, descriptions and topic names; it does not search the hidden Hard word list.
category
hard or large-print.
topic
One of the existing editorial collections:
paper
letter or a4 to return that format’s puzzle and answer PDFs. Omit it to return both formats: four files per puzzle.
limit
An integer from 1 to 12; defaults to 6 results.
offset
An integer from 0 to 24; defaults to 0. Continue with nextOffset until it is null.

  }
}

This search includes Garden Flowers, a 14-word, 14 × 14 large-print puzzle in Nature & Outdoors. The returned items are real puzzle summaries, with total, offset and nextOffset for pagination.

get_puzzle

Retrieve one frozen puzzle using its exact ID. Use an id returned by search, such as hard/mathematics; an arbitrary theme or URL is not a puzzle ID.

id
Required: the exact published category/slug identifier.
paper
Optional: letter or a4, as in search.
{
  "name": "get_puzzle",
  "arguments": {
    "id": "hard/mathematics",
    "paper": "letter"
  }
}

Mathematics has 24 words in a 22 × 22 grid, including diagonal and backward paths. The result contains its metadata and letter rows. Default responses do not include solution paths or the Hard target-word list. Large Print results include the visible word list used on their source pages.

Understand a result

Tool data is returned in structuredContent, with a text representation for compatible clients. Search returns items; the detail tool returns puzzle. Both include a versioned source:

  • Puzzle summary. ID, title, category, theme, description, word count, grid size, frozen version, topics and the original sourcePage.
  • Matching files. Each entry in files includes a real URL, MIME type, paper format, filename, byte size, SHA-256 checksum and the puzzle version. Its purpose identifies a puzzle sheet or an answer sheet. Keep the answer PDF separate when sharing a puzzle.
  • Detail fields. grid contains letter rows as strings; directions describes allowed word directions. words is included only for a puzzle whose word list is visible online.
  • Data version and notices. dataVersion identifies the published catalog snapshot; warnings carries applicable notices. Follow the returned source page when you need the full editorial introduction or interactive play.
  • Usage. The response includes usage with the same personal and classroom permissions and sharing restrictions shown on the website.

File metadata comes from the same build manifest as the website downloads. The MCP tools do not generate files for each request or change the stored board.

View selected fields from a real result

These fields come from the published Mathematics result for Letter paper. This excerpt omits the grid and other metadata; it keeps both matching PDFs and their actual checksums.

Scope, limits and errors

  • Two anonymous, read-only tools: search and puzzle lookup. There is no custom AI generation, saved-progress access, login or write operation. The Daily edition is not an MCP tool.
  • Search pages contain at most 12 puzzles. Invalid categories, unknown topics, oversized text, invalid pagination and unknown IDs produce an explicit error. An empty search is a valid result.
  • Requests have a 16 KiB body limit and a five-second execution limit. Invalid or unsupported requests fail rather than triggering custom generation.
  • Each running instance allows up to 60 requests per minute from an IP address, including initialization and tool discovery. This in-memory burst limit is local to an instance, can reset with it and is not a global quota. Shared networks can share a limit; separate edge instances count independently. Capacity protection can also reject requests.
  • For an HTTP 429 response, respect Retry-After and back off rather than retrying in a loop. Anonymous access is not an unlimited-use guarantee.
  • Client support varies. These tools supply puzzle data and files; an AI client may not render the interactive game or display every resource link. Open the source page to play online.

Usage and privacy

Free for personal and classroom use. Teachers may print copies for an entire class. Do not resell our puzzles or republish them online. You are welcome to link to the original puzzle pages. Read the puzzle usage terms before redistributing files.

MCP lookups are handled by a server. It receives your search terms, filters or puzzle ID and technical request information needed to serve and protect the endpoint. It does not read browser-local progress. We do not save raw search text in application logs. See our MCP privacy information.
