Search for 24 ancient writing tools, materials and script terms in a Hard grid. Play with hidden targets or print Letter/A4 sheets with separate answers.

Keep your flow
One more good puzzle.
A little more to discover.
Separate a script from its surface
These twenty-four words cover writing systems, materials, tools and the people who used them. Cuneiform names a writing system; clay and a stylus describe a common surface and tool associated with it. Papyrus, parchment and an ostracon refer to different writing materials. They were not all used together in one place or at one time.
Trace whole words, not symbols
The challenge is a 22 × 22 letter search with hidden online targets and paths in eight directions. It does not ask you to decode an ancient script. Familiar short words such as INK and LINE sit alongside longer terms such as INSCRIPTION. The separate print list can help you check the intended spelling before looking at the answer.
Imagine the purpose of a record
Once the board is complete, group the words into tools, surfaces and forms of writing. Museum collections contain records made for different purposes, from accounts to commemorations. Choose one imaginary message and decide which listed surface might carry it. Ancient World is a related puzzle about places and civilizations, rather than another version of this writing vocabulary.
Print a readable reference copy
Choose the Letter or A4 puzzle PDF for a one-page board with the target list and source-page URL. The answer is a different file, so it can stay with the person checking the activity. Use actual size and the correct paper setting. The letter paths remain fixed across online play, downloads and repeated visits.
