Architecture

Keep your flow

A little more to discover.

Read a building through its details

Look beyond a building's outline and think about the names of its parts. This 22 by 22 puzzle hides 24 architectural terms for architecture fans, sketchers, and readers of historic-building descriptions. Every straight direction is available, including diagonal and backward paths. The online word list is hidden; on paper it becomes a glossary-style prompt for the same challenge.

Print a companion to a sketchbook

Save the Letter or A4 puzzle PDF before printing, and use the paper-size version that matches your printer. Its visible list lets you annotate unfamiliar terms beside the grid or return to them after a walk. Print the separate answer PDF only when you want the stored paths marked; it does not change the building terms or letters.

Use the sheet with a group

Personal and classroom copies are free, including batch printing by teachers. Invite participants to draw one found feature or look for it in a photograph of a building. Keep the site address on the sheet when sharing it. A photo of a familiar building can make a useful discussion prompt once the last letter has been found.

Move from structures to stories

Continue through the four related puzzles to connect buildings with cultural history and the people who create them. Ancient World broadens the historical setting; Classic Cinema changes the target vocabulary to film titles. The National Park Service glossary provides background on describing historic resources and distinguishing buildings from other kinds of structures and sites.
