A palette written in letters

This 15 by 15 puzzle contains 14 color names, with a visible list and clear large-print letters. All answers go across or down in the forward direction. It can be a quiet activity for readers who enjoy everyday vocabulary without a hidden-list challenge. The puzzle uses the American spelling Gray; the activity is about finding written names, so recognizing colored patches is unnecessary.

Print with ordinary black ink

Save the Letter or A4 puzzle PDF and print the matching paper-size version. Colored ink is not required: the letter grid and word list work in black and white. Download the answer PDF separately if you want marked paths for checking. The page uses the same frozen letters as the online edition, rather than creating a fresh palette on download.

Make copies for the whole class

Teachers may batch-print the sheet for classroom use, and personal copies are free. Keep the source address visible on shared pages. A group can compare which names appear in paint, clothing, or favorite objects after searching. Invite each participant to choose a found word and suggest an object that brings the color to mind.

Try another comfortable subject

Four related puzzles offer more visible-list activities in familiar settings. Cozy Hobbies changes the vocabulary to things people choose to do, while Fresh Fruit connects color with familiar food names. Choose whichever topic sounds inviting. You can return to this palette later with saved online progress or start again with an unmarked paper copy.
