A little more to discover.

Decorations, stories and seasonal customs

A stocking by a fireplace, a garland and a poinsettia give this board a mixture of objects and customs associated with Christmas. ADVENT and NATIVITY add religious references; CAROLING and GINGERBREAD suggest activities and food. These twenty-four terms describe a selection of traditions, not a universal account of how families celebrate. The V&A background reading offers one historical perspective rather than explaining every word or culture.

Use the whole spelling as your guide

Twenty-four targets occupy a 22 × 22 grid in all eight directions, including diagonals and reverse paths. The target list stays hidden during online play. Scan for an interesting letter sequence, then test its complete spelling; POINSETTIA and MISTLETOE are worth reading carefully. A highlighted extra letter will not be silently removed to make an answer fit.

Change the challenge on paper

The Letter and A4 puzzle PDFs include the full target list, making the same board a guided word search on paper. Answers is a separate download with the frozen paths marked. Choose the paper size you actually use and print at actual size. For a group, keep the answer file aside until everyone has had a chance to search; printing copies never changes the arrangement.

Choose a different seasonal pace

Christmas and Christmas Treats offer smaller large-print boards with visible online lists and forward rows and columns. For another cultural subject, explore Orchestra or Classic Cinema from the Arts & Culture collection. Personal and classroom copies are free. Share this permanent page so others receive the matching grid, word list and separate answers, and choose subject matter appropriate to their own group.
